The Metro Regional Transit Authority, Portage Area Regional Transportation Authority and Stark Area Regional Transit Authority will again offer free rides on their fixed routes every Friday in July and August.
The “Free Fare Fridays” campaign is designed to encourage the use of public transportation, demonstrate that residents can easily use the transit systems and promote regionalization.
It’s the second consecutive year that the bus companies have offered the free rides.
The campaign also will recommend “Destinations of the Week” in each county. The attractions, events, and venues selected will be posted on NEORide.org and each transit system’s Facebook page every Monday.
Along with free fares, anyone riding a bus on Friday during the promotion will have the chance to receive a prize pack from members of the Metro, PARTA, and SARTA “Rider Patrol.”
To celebrate the start of the campaign, the first 400 people who ride Metro’s Route 14 or “The Loop” to the Akron Zoo on July 13 will receive half-price admission tickets courtesy of NEORide.
Free fares are available only on fixed routes and are not valid for travel on premium services such as Metro’s SCAT, Northcoast Express, or Call-A-Bus; PARTA’s Cleveland Express or DART Service; or SARTA’s Route 4 to Cleveland or Proline service.
